2012: The Year Video took a Giant Leap
2012 has been an exceptional year for web video, with Psy's taking the world by storm and Felix Baumgartner's huge leap from space.
With record-breaking numbers of viewers watching content online, video has also played a massive part in the growth of companies globally.
Just take a look at YouTube's statistics to see how mind boggling the 'video revolution' has become, for example: 500 years of YouTube videos are watched every day on Facebook. Crazy!
We've pulled together a few interesting statistics from the past 12 months to sum up how web video has also been impacting on businesses.
Increase in B2B Marketers Using Video
- This year has seen a big shift in business marketing strategies when it comes to video - 76% of marketers planned to increase their video marketing in 2012, making video the top marketing strategy to invest in this year
- Over half of B2B marketers are now using video, a 27% increase since 2011. If you're not already thinking about using video in your business, then now is definitely the time - studies have shown that B2B companies using video experience up to a 36% rise in annual sales
- 59% of senior executives prefer to watch video instead of reading text
- 80% of executives are watching more online video today than they were a year ago
Online Video has Proved Essential for Strengthening SEO Results
- With web video on your homepage you're 53% more likely to get a first page google result, providing your videos are relevant to your website and include integrated keywords
- 38% of Google universal searches include video
- With a 41% higher click-through rate than plain text, video is predicted to reach 90% of all web traffic by 2014
- The number of internet retailers with onsite video has increased 200% from 2011, with 48 of top 50 internet retailers websites containing video
Mobile Viewers are Watching Longer Videos Than Desktop Viewers
- While it's often thought that viewers prefer to watch 2 minute over long-form videos, this isn't necessarily the case for mobile and tablet viewers. 42% of videos viewed on a tablet are over 10 mins, in comparison to 52% of videos viewed on a desktop being under 3 minutes.
- With this in mind, a top tip for videos over 10 minutes is to make sure the website it's streamed from is HTML5 compliant. Roughly 74% of the online video market now supports HTML5 (which has been built with the ability to run on smartphones and tablets) so don't fall behind your competitors in 2013!
- According to an Analytics Report by Bytemobile early this year, online video accounts for 50% of all mobile traffic and 69% of traffic on certain networks. Cisco also reckon that mobile video will generate 66% of mobile data traffic by 2015.
No doubt there will be loads of online video predictions for 2013. But one thing is for sure, web video is getting bigger and better by the day.
If your company haven't already started using web video this year, then 2013 is definitely the year to start!
