Seen through the prism of the family, this session will investigate the dynamics of the socially connected family unit and how marketers engage. We’ll explore how children and parents use social media both separately and together and the effects of this on relationships between the generations.
Marketing in its purest form should enable parents and children to make informed decisions about what’s best for their family. Social media can simplify and empower this process in a way that’s never existed before.
This presents opportunities and challenges for brands and their marketers, in a sensitive but important area. Taking a look at the latest research, our panel will discuss how marketers can support the family and answer those critical questions: “What’s new?” and “Who’s doing it well?” as well as providing plenty of time for Q&A with the audience.

Marc Goodchild

Marc is an independent digital specialist in kids and family media, particularly focussing on cross-platform innovation on TV, connected TVs, tablets and browsers. He works with traditional brands and new character-led properties and is currently exec-ing interactive projects for various broadcasters (including Horrible Histories for CBBC and Olly the Little White Van on CITV). He cut his teeth as a film director on Blue Peter and Record Breakers, has worked on Disney television productions and then spent the last decade branching out into more interactive media (red button, web, mobile, games). In 2007 was invited to head up BBC Children's interactive division - and led the creative renewal of both Cbeebies and CBBC online, (including the development of the junior iPlayers) and also authored the BBC's submission to Byron review on internet safety.

Brought on board in 2006, her task was to help make Mumsnet a commercial success. Over the last six years, revenues have more than quadrupled and the sales team has grown from just Jules to a team of twelve.
Jane Rumble

Jane is Head of Audiences, Media at Ofcom, the UK’s communications regulator, where she has been since 2006. She leads a variety of consumer research projects including media literacy and public service broadcasting. Previously she was Research Director for Disney Channel EMEA, responsible for European-wide consumer and brand strategy research.

Julie Adair has worked in interactive content since the mid-90s, in senior roles at the BBC and, latterly, The Walt Disney Company. She was part of the launch of BBC Online and contributed to many of the new services launched as the web grew within the BBC. During her time at Disney, Julie developed a specialism in children’s media, focusing on games, apps and social experiences and has been a juror or speaker at seminars and conferences around the world. Julie is a visiting Professor of Interactivity, Content and Communities at the University of Abertay, Dundee. In her spare time, she is fund-raising to build a school for the Maasai in Western Tanzania.
