Speaker Line Up
Alex May - My Robot Companion.
Alex May is an artist working with light emitting technologies, computer programming, maths, power tools, and physical objects as a canvas to create hybrid collisions of images and unexpected contexts. He will present the project "My Robot Companion", made in collaboration with artist Anna Dumitriu, that utilises a humanoid research robot (built and supplied by Dr Michael L Walters and Professor Kerstin Dautenhahn in the Adaptive Systems Group at the University of Hertfordshire) that investigates our relationship to robots, and the idea of the uncanny valley.

Rob Bateman - Dissecting the Gloop: Anatomy of an Away3D project on mobile.
With AIR 3.2, hardware acceleration in Flash has been let loose on mobile, presenting huge potential for mobile developers looking to simplify their publishing process across platforms. However, Stage3D is still relatively recent technology, so what can we do when trying to establish an effective workflow for production? Rob Bateman from Away3D takes you through some of the approaches used on their recent game Gloop-a-Hoop, released on iOS, Android and Facebook earlier this month.
Friedrich Kauder and Eduardas Afanasjevas - Open data: making free information work for you
Thanks to the 'Free Our Data' campaign started in 2006, the UK has become a leading provider of free public data. Data.gov.ukpublishes more datasets than its mighty US equivalent. How can we make full use of this service?
Together with Cartogami's Eduardas Afanasjevas and Friedrich Kauder, we will take stock of Britain's open data landscape and explore ways in which free information can contribute to your projects.
Friedrich and Eduardas are co-founders of Cartogami.
