How do we create communities that are more sustainable? Do people care? Do we need them?
Event Info
Description
The Conversation Society will explore modern concepts of 'sustainability' and ‘community’ fostered by government, media and business: what they mean for families, neighbourhoods and cities; for communities of employees and customer groups.
In the UK alone, community has been a much debated topic, spanning Big Society, the London riots, and the role of social media as a conduit for civic action - both social and anti-social.
Are more sustainable communities worth pursuing? Where is the leadership within communities? What impact can businesses have? How do we plan for and build more sustainable communities? How do we measure their effectiveness? Can technology help?
To lead the conversation, and explain what sustainability means to their communities, our experts will each speak for 10 minutes – no visuals, no PowerPoint, no charts, just conversation. Then it’s up to you.
- Matt Bell, Group Head of External Affairs, Berkeley Group Holdings plc – on place-making and neighbourhood building
- David Symons, Director, WSP Environment & Energy – on getting employees engaged
