Copyright in the Digital Age: Will the Government Implement the Hargreaves Recommendations?

Last year, David Cameron appointed Professor Ian Hargreaves to lead a review of how Britain's intellectual property laws affect growth and innovation in the digital age. After months of research and meetings with stakeholders from a wide range of constituencies, Professor Hargreaves published his report on 18 May 2011. The report makes 10 high-level recommendations for transforming the IP system - and in particular the copyright regime - into one fit for the 21st century.
Now it's the government's turn to decide whether to implement Professor Hargreaves's recommendations. Ministers are due to provide their reaction to the report in the next few weeks, so we have a short window for people interested in the outcome to voice their views. This event is intended to give members of the tech community the chance to do just that.
The discussion will be led by a fantastic panel including:
- Stefan Glaenzer (Partner, Passion Capital, and founder of White Bear Yard)
- Professor Ian Hargreaves (Professor of Digital Economy, Cardiff University, and head of the Independent Review of IP and Growth)
- Eric Joyce MP (Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on the Digital Economy)
- Lord Lucas (Conservative peer)
- Nico Perez (Co-Founder of Mixcloud)
We invite you to come along and hear their thoughts, voice your own and make your contribution to the conversation on this important issue. The event will run from 6:30 to 9:30 pm (note that's BST, even though Eventbrite insists on doing GMT): the main discussion will run from 7:30 to 8:30, with networking and socialising before and after. Food and drinks will be provided. Attendance is free, but registration is required.
