Social Media Week LondonThis event is part of Social Media Week London, organised by Chinwag for UK Trade & Investment.

Mel Carson, MicrosoftMel Carson, Community Manager at Microsoft Advertising
Mel’s role as Community Manager at Microsoft Advertising is to build relationships within the online advertising community by supporting and educating through the Microsoft Advertising Blog, evangelising through social media and by speaking about internet marketing at conferences, trade shows & other events. He was part of the team that planned & executed the UK roll-out of Microsoft adCenter in August 2006, and it didn’t take much persuasion for Mel to join Microsoft Advertising Community Team when it became apparent that Social Media Marketing was going to be huge! Mel has spoken about adCenter, Search, Social Media & Digital Marketing at conferences and events in the UK, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Toronto, Reykjavik, Dublin, Barcelona & Tenerife. He also lectures on MBA, MSc and online marketing courses, advising syllabus decision makers at Cranfield School of Management and Birkbeck College – part of London University.

Before getting into digital marketing, he was an eternally-resting-actor and got an ignominious break in a Joe Cocker Video way back in 1997!

She is Founder and CMO of fast growth software company Moonfruit which provides the tools for SME's and artisans to build ‘Beautiful websites, simply.’ She founded www.moonfruit.com in 1999, as CEO raising significant venture capital from Macromedia and LVMH. Moonfruit was sold to Gandi Group in 2005 where Wendy became Marketing Director but recently it was spun back out as a separate company, raising $2.25m from Stephens(US) in Sept 2010 for accelerated international growth.

Dr Aleks Krotoski is a researcher and journalist who writes about and studies technology and interactivity. She writes for The Guardian and Observer newspapers, and hosts Tech Weekly, their technology podcast. Her writing also appears on BBC Technology, Nature, New Statesman, MIT Technology Review and The Telegraph. She recently completed the Emmy and Bafta-winning BBC 2 series Virtual Revolution about the economic, political, interpersonal and psychological implications of the Internet.
