Video games are huge. In 2009 Nielsen reported that video
game console usage was up 21% over the previous year with gamers
spending an average of 12.8 hours playing games a month. Screen Digest
estimates that in-game advertising alone will grow to $1 billion by
2014.
Games like Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty have overtaken
cinema releases like Titanic and Harry Potter to become the biggest
entertainment properties in the world. While casual gaming like karaoke,
Wii fit and brain training has opened audiences up to older and female
demographics. At the same time online gaming has taken social networks
by storm, such as Farmville on Facebook with over 82 million active
users in April 2010.
If you aren’t already advertising on games
media, you need to be. With drinks, nibbles, games advertising examples
and a massive splash of party - this is one event in the marketing
calendar you simply cannot afford to miss.
