2009 c&binet Forum Event
Event Info
Description
cabinet - creativity and business international network
The first annual c&binet forum is taking place on 26-28 October 2009 at The Grove in Hertfordshire.
In February 2008, the Department for Culture Media and Sport, (DCMS) jointly with the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) and the Department for Innovation and Skills (DIUS), published a strategy paper for the creative economy called Creative Britain: New Talents for the New Economy.
‘Creative Britain’ contains 26 commitments designed to put culture and creativity at the centre of our national life and bring the creative industries into the mainstream of the UK economy. Commitment no 24 is ‘We will initiate the launch of the World Creative Business Conference’. This was the working title for c&binet.
C&binet was formally launched in October 2008 and the first main c&binet event will be on 26-28 October 2009 at The Grove in Hertfordshire.
The vision for c&binetC&binet was created by the UK Government’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport to foster international dialogue about the creative economy. The c&binet ambassadors – business leaders from across the creative economy – helped to shape the vision for the first c&binet forum, which will focus on the four main themes:
- Access to finance for creative industries What do creative businesses need to do to attract investment and demonstrate reliability of future cash flow? How do you tackle the lack of understanding between investors and creative companies?
- New business models for online content How can a viable business be made out of online content without relying on advertising?
- Developing Talent What can be done to create opportunities for the next generation of creative talent? How can creative businesses make sure tomorrow’s employees have the right skills to thrive?
- Securing creative rights How best to ensure that those who generate and fund creative product are able to secure its value? Both regulatory and non-regulatory methods will be examined.
The futureWhile DCMS have taken steps to initiate c&binet it is the clear desire of Government that it should become a not-for-profit initiative run without direct government control.
