Brian,
You may not be doing anything wrong. It sounds like the MIME type may not be set
for Flash on the server -- this can often crash browsers when trying to view the
file.
If you're using an ISP, you may want to contact Support. If it's your own server
(or just to learn more), check out
http://www.FlashCentral.com/Tech/Server/Index.htm.
