Subject: UKNM: FMCGs online

In the shameless spirit of self promotion, "Marketing" 26/8 also ran a piece
(I claim a vested interest here having written it) about Smint's plans for
selling online. Packs retail for 99p in shops and are going to be sold in
multipacks of 12 - views anyone?

...while we're on the subject, what do people think of the Heinz site done
by Brand New Media? Is nutritional information and selling Baked Beans
online the way forward? - or is Lucozade's tie-up with Lara Croft likely to
yield more interest?

Subject: FMCG products on-line

Did anyone see the article in NMA (26th August) about Lion Confectionery ?
Interestingly this Yorkshire based company will be augmenting its existing
sales channels by setting up an e-commerce facility for ex-pats and those
living outside the immediate area. Note that its sales value is 1.19 per
pound sweet bag!
So is this leading edge ? Could Coke, Cadbury sell its products via the web
and then use local distribution to deliver. Surely the problem with FMCG
products is the low ticket value but with aggregated delivery even this can
be overcome.
