the obvious thing is to run as many of the various log analysers as one
can get one's hands on the same sample log. I'd be interested in the
results.
I think it's in most browsers interests to be fairly honest, but there
was a time when IE would report itself as mozilla, because a lot of
sites' browser detection code was broken.
