Hm... this leads on to a question that has been floating around the
Multimap.com campus for a little while now - to what extent do we believe
browser type stats?
The reason we wonder is that we see an increasingly large amount of traffic
from cacheing proxies, and of course they may report almost anything when
they first pull a page, and they never report anything for subsequent
use of static images, pages or whatever (yes, Stefan and the other techies,
I know they ought to do an "retrieve if modified..." but I'm fairly sure
that most of 'em don't).
We see a huge number of requests from Freeserve's caches, and quite a lot
from a lot of the mid-size ISPs. I haven't checked what browser type the
caches use; I guess doing so would be helpful.
Anyway... browser types... I don't completely believe them.
Cheers
Sean
