not a bad scam but I prefer this one.


A daytrader appears on one of the big financial message boards with a hot

tip, quoting a report from a big investment house and providing the URL.

Thousand of happy daytraders click the link, read the report and start

clicking on their BUY button.


What these daytraders have failed to notice is that the URL is not actually

on the investment houses site. It's just a look-alike page, mocked up by

some nefarious social engineer who has previously purchased stocks in the

company at a bargain price. As stock is traded the perpetrator watches the

price rise and, when he's satisfied with his prank, makes a killing.


A nice easy ploy which bring up some interesting points about perception and

trust on the web
