Currant Bun, ic24, etc 


The value of these domain names are:

1/ How well people remember them after seeing them so next time 

they browse they'll type it in and find the site. (currant bun - good, 

ic24 bad.)


2/ Leverage existing brand strength (does currant bun do this well? 

I dont think so. ic24 - appalling)


3/ Incidental traffic in terms of people typing the name in to their 

browser in order to find what they want.


For example the domain name wallstreet.com is for sale for over 

$300,000 next week as it gains incidental traffic of over 300,000 

visitors per month without any advertising. Or Altavista.com that 

was getting huge amounts of incidental traffic from people thinking 

it was digital's altavista (the domain name later sold for over $5 

million)


How often have you typed in sex.com or porn.com? Me never :)' but 

these types of generic names get huge amounts of incidental traffic.


What amazes me is that these internet experienced tabloids don't 

opt for something more generic, like free.co.uk for a free service 

and companies don't opt for domain names that are generic 

descriptions of their product areas like gardens.co.uk or 

conferences.co.uk or whatever.


It's not exclusive either. You can have many domain names 

pointing to the same site.
