You need to select all of the frames - right click and select copy frames.
Create a new movie clip symbol and paste the frames into it.

Subject: FLASH: animation into a symbol
Hi all...Flash newbie here...
is there an easy way to convert an animation that spans multiple layers in
the timeline into a single symbol? How do you do this? Do you just select
all of the frames that the animation takes place in, and then convert that
to a symbol?
I am trying to create an animation, and then convert it to a symbol. Also,
should this be a movie clip symbol?
Thanks!
