Subject: FLASH: Weird transparency problems
From: Rebecca Lovelace

We have some bitmapped art that needs to be transparent. We tried exporting
as Gif 89a from Photoshop with a transparent colour, but are getting some
bizarre effects. Originally, each piece of art was saved with its own
adaptive palette, so I thought perhaps that was the problem, so I tried
converting everything to 256 Mac system palette. Instead of being purely
transparent, the background colour is translucent and some random colour (on
one piece it's green, another it's purple, another it's light green)...
changing whether compression is JPG or PNG seems to have SOME effect, but
the whole thing makes me rather nervous. I get this right in Flash, and if
I test the movie or publish it, I get varied strange effects.

Is this a known issue? Why is it happening? What could I do with this
artwork to get around it?

Thanks!!

Rebecca
