Different search engines use different mechanisms, rankings, and exclusion
rules... try searching google.com with phrase "search engine secrets" to
pull up a bunch of introductory hits.

Some searching engines take special notice of SWF files... atomz.com was
the first of these, and I recall hearing of two others in the last few
months although I don't recall their names at the moment.

atomz.com Flash FAQ:
http://www.atomz.com/help/flashfaq.tk

(What's interesting here is that they peer inside the SWF to index all
text, and also peer inside any other SWFs referenced via LoadMovie. It's a
fascinating world.... ;-)
