Subject: FLASH: skinning the cat

I'm new to Flash and designing my first movie. I've looked at a lot of
fla's but I'm sometimes not sure why certain choices were made. So: I
have a small animation that runs within my main movie. There are actually
three versions of the animation that run depending on user mouse actions.
Am I better off loading in a single clip that contains all three animations
sequentially and then jump to the relevant section as required, or am I
better off loading individual clips into a single level so that the new
clip replaces the last one? Do all of these loads affect performance? Does
any of this matter?
