Chris . . . the demo at www.flashbrothers.com is just under 700K and has
been approved at 28.8 modem speeds with "most" connections using that modem.
The key is not how big or small it is though your aim is to make it as small
as possible, but rather making sure the viewer does not have to knowingly
endure a lengthy download process. There is no set way of doing this from
my experience and with each project it is different on how you approach the
viewers experience upon entry. "How do we get all that to the viewer
without them thinking that they are being stalled for a considearble amount
of time?" My experience is that IE users have the ability to skip
"entertaining preloaders" on future visits so long as they have at least sat
through it once, their cache hasnt expired and the swf files have not been
changed or edited on the server side in any way. In the end, when we have
all mastered minimalism as second nature to out artisitic personalities, we
will be granted more bandwidth from the technology gods and then begin to
add all the stuff we really wish we could do now. It shall make us better
artists in the end I believe!
