I would suggest bringing your friend in on this. I had a similar situation
with a television commercial I did for a local politician. I contacted a
producer friend who works with her a lot. When he asked her about it, she
immediately paid me out of fear for her reputation among technical
professionals whom she relies upon.

Opinion poll, here.

A while back I did a Flash opener page for a friend/client (FSH) for a
future website she plans on opening.
The rest of her website was going to be developed by another client of mine
(LN) who has just opened a website touting healthy living ideals and
products. For these people I have been developing icons to represent
different kinds of news stories they'll be featuring on their site.
I have been paid by the FSH gal for the Flash work I did.
I invoiced LN about a month ago now, and have yet to see a check.
I did get a request last week from one of their people for a W-9, so I
thought this might mean a check was coming, but alas, not yet.
Also last week I got a call from the gal I'm working with at LN about the
Flash opener I did for the FSH gal, since I guess that project is looking to
get underway.
But since I have not (yet) been paid by the LN people, I'm considering - let
me just come right out and say it - holding the source .FLA file for the FSH
opener hostage in an attempt to get the FSH gal (who is a friend of the
people over at LN) to "influence" some movement on the part of the LN people
and their check-signers.

This doesn't sound like a nice thing to do, and I certainly have a lot of
problems with doing such a thing to a friend of mine, but I also have a lot
of problems with not getting paid for my work, not to mention some laxness
on the part of their people about getting back to me.

There you have it, in as much of a nutshell as I can give you.

What would you do?
