Sorry, no, when you import a PSD to LiveMotion there's not the option to
keep media internal or external, as you'd see when importing a PSD to
Director. Because there's not a Library*, I don't see a path reference to
the external file as in Flash, either.
(* LiveMotion *does* have a window named "Library", but it's a different
use of the term than in Flash... it seems to be more like a shortcut
through the Import dialog. This is more of the same crossnaming problem
that you'll find with terms like "layer" or "behavior".)
That said, in LiveMotion you *can* invoke Photoshop to edit bitmaps that
were originally PSDs, by using the "Edit Original" menu command. If you
check the image's titlebar in Photoshop, though, you'll find you're editing
a temp file rather than the original file on disk.
Rephrased, you cannot update a file in Photoshop and have all LiveMotion
files use this new reference, as you can in Director. You *can*, however,
open a set of LiveMotion files and then edit each of their copies of the
original image in Photoshop, though.
Sidenote: To actually have something resembling the "RoundTrip Graphics" in
Fireworks 2, necessary improvements would have to include (a) keeping
assets external; (b) finding the source file used to create a delivery
file; (c) passing editing information between applications, such as the new
dimensions of an image resized in Dreamweaver. This "RoundTrip Graphics"
term is also in danger of being obfuscated.
It also doesn't look like the list of external editors is configurable...
in Director and Dreamweaver you can choose which applications are invoked
to edit particular media elements. LiveMotion seems hardwired to only
invoke Adobe-brand tools....
If my observations here are incorrect, then I'd appreciate further info
from the Adobe marketing folks on the list, thanks in advance.
