Uhh... 12.5K, maybe. It was up to 20,000 on Friday, and I'm hearing the same

55,000+ figure as is being reported here (probably from the same source). Mind

you, that's *registrations*, not users. I imagine every warez kid in Britain

is subscribing n times, so that they can accumulate n*5MB of glorious Web

space. What we're seeing here is all the regular Net users trying it out

before thinking of switching. You'll get another peak when the monthlies come

out covering the same story, then the underlying trend will emerge.


For those like Ray who believe in withholding their fifth or sixth comment on

the service until after they've tried it, there are some details on how to

register without the Dixons CD at http://www.ntk.net/freeserve/ . I had a

short note from someone at Freeserve's support desk (posted from his demon

address, curiously), pointing out that the cypherpunk account won't work with

lots of simulataneous users, so you might like to use the registration login

given later on. 


I've had it confirmed that 128K ISDN and Windows 98 bonded modems both work on

the same number.
