UKNM: Fraud?

According to a stat circulating, the Net accounts for 1% of a credit card 

companies turnover and over 70% of their fraudulent transactions?


I'm trying to find out which particular old wife/husband this stat came 

from. It's quoted as a stat by all the on-line cc merchants and banks as an 

excuse for charging through the nose but I don't believe it. Has anyone 

publicly disputed this ? I'd like to kill this stupid rumour now, can 

anyone help?
