Based on the rate of technology adoption among consumers, we
may be waiting sometime for that "radical shift in web design".

Nielsens 1998 article ( http://www.useit.com/alertbox/980405.html
) argues that we're stuck with low-bandwidth site design until
at least 2003. No doubt there'll be exciting opportunities to
increase our workload and build yet another version of sites
optimised for fast connections, but, sadly, I expect most sites
to still focus on low-band connections for some time yet.

Just my 2 cents...

steve gooder.

|Hi mark,
|
|Having trailed ADSL with a 2 meg pipe I have to say ADSL radically
changes
|the way you use the internet. For a start you soon realise how
poor the
|quality of media from sites like ITN and ABC are and discover
that QuickTime
|streaming is pretty nice. You also expect different things form
sites. The
|most major thing I can say is you suddenly realise that you
don't want
|everything on one page of a site but because you know the next
page will be
|near instant the internet starts to shift from a real-estate
issue to a time
|one.
|
|With the advent to broad band I hope we see a radical shift
in web design
|away from page like www.freeserve.net (not badly designed -
just lots going
|on on one page) to more playstation like front ends.
|
|Cheers
