FLASH: masking to a layer containing just an mc does not seem to work

Hi all,

 

I am trying to apply masking to a layer which has just a movie clip. But this does not seem to work...is there something that i am doing wrong...?

I could get the same effect if i apply two masking layers to one layer...but since that did not work.......i tried the above...though in effect i am attempting at the same stuff thorugh different means.

 

is there any work around i can give a try to get the same effect?

 

pointing me in the right direction will be of great help
