FLASH: Flash 4 guide layers and masks...? EMERGENCY!!!

I'm trying to do a simple task that works in Flash 3 but not in 4.

I have a symbol that is following a circular path that I created. I would 

like to mask out part of the symbol as it follows the path.

I can do this easily in Flash 3. But with Flash 4 it's not letting me do both 

only one or the other.

Now this can't be right I have to be missing something.......

PLEASE HELP!!!!
