Woooaahh... Calm down. First of all, take a deep breath. Inhale.
Exhale. Feel better? OK.

First of all, forget about lingo. Lingo is immensely complex
compared to flash, and attempting to learn any will probably only confuse
you more. The only real connection between flash and director is that they
are owned by Macromedia. They were originally developed by different people
to do different things. Although MM have hacked lingo about and made it
webby, it is still hugely different to flash.

I'd suggest that if you want to learn flash, learn flash. If you
want to do primarily web oriented work, stick to it, because that's what it's
for and what it does best.
Try to start with something simple. It will take time and effort to
develop a decent amount of flash skill, but it can be very exciting and
rewarding. However, it does require a certain mentality, and an
understanding of the basics of lfash before you even think about using
variables.

You've come to flash at a difficult time, because all the new
possibilities of variables and propertiesare just being explored, and we are
starting to see the emergence of a pure "flash programmer".
Up until now, flash was generally considered by programmers to be
too much of a 'designer' environment, and not really taken seriously at all.
However, now, as has happened with lingo, we are beginning to see the
specialisation of skillsets.

If you do decide to go down the route of flash programmer, I'd
suggest that you start by familiarising yourself with the 3 basic types of
object in flash: graphic, button and movie clip. These components are
fundamental to the workings of flash, and you really need to understand
these before you can do anything. Then move on to simple actions and
interactivity, stuff like

On (press)
Play

It seems overly simplistic, but you can really accomplish a lot with
only this much knowlegde of flash.
For the time being, put yogop.com out of your mind, and concentrate
on the basics. Feel free to ask questions on the list, but try and read
everything, you wil pick stuff up very quickly once you know the basics.

Anyway, hang in there, and good luck : )
