no, because the faulty dlls will still be there - you need to extract the
odbc.cab file from the win 98 cd and relace two of the odbc dlls (that
webpage address tells exactly which ones)
caveat : i had trouble actually deleting the files in win 98, because they
were (apparently) in use. it took a bit of perseverance.

this is a problem with pws on win 98/95
the answer can be found here
http://www.4guysfromrolla.com/webtech/pwsbug.shtml
it's an ie5 problem (i assume that's what you're using?) - i've had the same
problem via normal odbc/asp (ie not flash)

Subject: FLASH: FLASH and ASP
Hey there ...I was doing a little test with ASP and FLASH and ran INTO SOME
PROBLEMS. I "modified" a tutorial by Jay from Webmonkey to do this and sent
him
this mail .....to which he has not responded yet - so I was wondering if one
of
you guru's could help me out ...bear in mind the flash movie is pretty bare
.....it was just a test to see if it could be done and prolly contains some
bad
programming too - hehehe ...but still ...please ...if anyone could assist i
would be so happy...

Subject: Web Database - bug ??
Hello Jay,
Firstly thank you for the excellent article on creating a web based
database .....and I know you must prolly be a very busy man - but this
has been bugging me and I cant get it right so PLEASE PLEASE give your
input.
I created a database in Microsoft access, set up a System DSN for it
under ODBC32 and then modified your update.asp file so it works with my
Database. (Like you warned i shouldn't do)
I modified your UPDATE.ASP file so the fields and the database points
to my database, instead of your example. All this should still work
fine so far right ?
OK, I then fully installed PWS with everything (all options) so that
nothing was left out.
I designed the forms in FLASH4 (instead of HTML - which should make no
difference as they just pass the name=value pairs onto the ASP)
Then ...the testing ...
I ran the flashpage (a flash movie withing an HTML document)
This succesfully sent the variables and values to the ASP.
I opened the Access Database in Access and saw that the record was
added. - WOW IT WORKED !!!- I can insert records into a database
through a web page - WOW
but then .....
I then reloaded the flashpage to test if i can add another record (and
marvel at this feat again) - but something is wrong ....adding another
record does not work....
I opened PWS manager and saw that there was 1 active connection - and
they seemed to grow everytime I try it again - although just 1 visitor
No matter what i do, I cannot add another record to the database from
the webpage without first rebooting my pc. - Either PWS freezez when I
add a record or something else freezez or the database or odbc dies - I
dont know and I cant seem to fix it.
please please any help would be appreciated.

Thank you :o)
