I once built a small Flash "jukebox" for a friends website. I had initially wanted three, 3-4 minute songs (aiff), with a small bitmap animation, that the user could pick and listen to in MP3 format. I was only able to get 3 - 45 second samples in the file with (mac) 64mgs of ram allocated to F4, and when I allocated 180mgs to F4, I was able to crunch down only 2 of the three songs but I had some playback problems. When I got an error in my system, it was because I didn't have enough ram. I calculated one 4 minute song crunched down is around 600k and 3 songs would be about 1.8mgs. Now this is a heck of a download for most all connections. My other alternative would be to boil out some MCs with different background sounds and call it up at the same time you make a scene change, with the button you use - or possibly an action in a timeline(?).
Does anyone know how much ram you can allocate to F4? is 1gig possible? I know someone who uses around 700megs allocated to F4 and they seem to have no problem with cruching images, but sound is always a different story....
Regards,
D

Hello All,
I know I asked this a while back, but I had some filter problems and
never saw an answer... so let me try one more time.
I have an existing movie. I successfully imported a rather long
sound into it. It all works fine. I am now trying to put a different
background song, but I continuously get errors with every attempt. I get
an error whether I am trying to import a WAV or AIFF. I am using a Mac.
Does this sound familiar to anyone out there? Is there a conversion
app that works best with Flash 4?
Thanks,
Robert
