FLASH: Navigation mystery

I am assuming that each button has a movie clip that is triggered that has the text growing, the lines extending and the text and graphics appearing in the open area of the page.  When a new area is selected, the current text shrinks back into place and the graphics fade away.

I am wondering how, no matter which movie clip is currently showing, that when you click a button for a new area, it triggers the current clip to close and the new one to open.

I can get one movie clip to REPLACE another, but I can't make the first one continue on and the second one play.

This probably wasn't too clear, but my brain is scrambled trying to come up with an idea of how this was done.
