Flashers,

Adding to Brad's comment on this matter I would like to stress the
following :
I advised Macromedia on the bug during a weekend from a different
timezone. Macromedia's response, even though it was the weekend and my
hours are quite different, was very quick and from feedback I have
received from the team I can only praise the way it has been dealt with.
Any professional developer on this list will understand why I did not
release information on this subject in this public forum, but now that
'the cat is out of the bag' I think we should all commit towards damage
control. The 'bug' allows a site to capture, under certain
circumstances, the email of it's visitors, this is something that any
respectable site would not do but it is something that a lot of sites
would like to do. It might be reasonable to expect some possible
backlash from media coverage on this that might influence the acceptance
of Flash but with some luck the media will be showing more interest in
the latest Microsoft security fiasco (
http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/sci/tech/newsid_437000/437967.stm )
than in an exploit related to a plugin.

Nigel
