FLASH: My intro (and some questions)

Hi everybody,


I've just joined this list and would like to introduce myself. I'm a 

graphic designer who's been working in print media since the late '80s 

(working in the comic book industry) and began learning web stuff in '95. 

I'm a heavy photoshop user, but have been really stoked on the great web 

tools Macromedia has been releasing. I use Dreamweaver and Fireworks all 

the time for web sites. I'm still fairly new to Flash, only been using it 

for a few weeks.


Anyway my first Flash project is to re-design the Dave Koz site. Dave Koz 

is a well-known saxophone player, he's on Capitol Records and has a slick 

jazz-pop sound. He's got a new album out in late September and I'm doing a 

promo piece for it on his site. The Flash file is fairly large (1.2 MB) 

because there are about 8-10 minutes of sound samples included in the file. 

I'm compressing the sounds as far as is acceptable to me. Everything is 

working pretty well, but there are two things I'm trying to accomplish that 

I haven't been able to figure out yet:


1: I'd like to pre-load some of the sound files with a "loading..." teaser. 

I've seen it done, but the Flash docs either don't tell me how to do this 

or I can't find it. The file loads with a spoken word intro that I've set 

to Streaming mode. Can I pre-load the spoken word intro while the "loading" 

teaser plays, then switch to the main menu when that's loaded? I assume 

it's done with separate scenes but don't know how to accomplish it.


2. The sound clips on the buttons are in Start mode. I'd like to be able to 

Stream the sound clips from the buttons, but haven't been able to make that 

work.


3. When one sound is playing, if the user clicks one of the other buttons, 

the new sound start playing concurrently with the previous sound- they sort 

of layer over one another. It sounds really crappy. I've got a "stop all 

sounds" button on the page so that a user can manually stop the sound 

before pressing the next button, but I'd like to be able to make each 

button automatically stop any other sound before playing its own attached 

sound.
