interesting. i have always been a big supporter of hand coding everything

and I have always scoffed at WYSIWYGs.  I use Homesite right now.  But, I am

looking to speed my production time.  Does Adobe Go Live REALLY produce

clean un-mutated code?  Can the coded pages be easily opened in an editor

like Homesite and changed?

My vote goes for Adobe GoLive. We've used it since version 2.x and it simply

can't be beat. It's closest competition is Dreamweaver. Both are powerful

programs and only as good as those who use them. Each program has it's

benefits, but when it comes to Site Management and Ease-Of-Use, GoLive wins

hands down. 


GoLive -- won't rewrite your code, great GUI, user-friendly, great palettes,

makes common things like rollovers easy with JavaScript functions, ability

to view in WYSIWYG, text or Browser mode, JavaScript editor, QT editor,

DHTML editor and Site Management tools that really come in handy when doing

any site of moderate size. Database support is more limited, but can easily

be handled by <no edit> tags.


Dreamweaver -- won't rewrite your code, acceptable GUI, acceptable

user-friendliness (if that's even a term), palettes, makes things like

JavaScript rollovers easy with JavaScript functions, ability to view in

WYSIWYG, text or browser mode, JavaScript editor, DHTML editor, integrates

with Flash better, more database support.


Only down side is that both programs run around $300. But believe me, you'll

make up for it on the first project with the improvements in efficiency and

capabilities you'll have.


Other programs will run you around $100, so in my opinion, you might as well

invest the extra and expand your capabilities and talents to get bigger and

better projects that pay more.
