It's not a built in option at all...it's gonna be a bit tricky, man.

You have to create a mask for the shape that you want the stage to be..

in lingo you spawn a new window (windows in director are like any windows
in ..um...windows, or mac windows)....so that you spawn a new window as
your main window and you hide the stage. You set the window's mask to be
the shape you had and there ya go.

You should check www.director-online.com or the macromedia site. In
essence I believe it's not a documented feature though... but
director-online is a great resource with a searchable database.
