As we would say up here in the one true northland where we live in Maple
Trees-
That is a load of wolverine crap.

I teach at a post secondary institution ( Humber College's School of Media
Studies) and, I hate to break it to you, we sure as hell aren't inept . Hold
it.
Yes we are.

Only 98 % of our graduating class ( 65 warm bodies) got jobs in the
industry
last year. Too bad it took ,on average, 30 days after graduation to find
fulltime employment. Mind you a few of them couldn't find jobs in Toronto so
they went to work for firms in San Francisco, New York, London (England),
Chicago and Montral. So yeah, I guess we are inept if we can't train them
to
stay in town or to say no to a recruiter.

I have to agree with you that we can't possibly keep up. This is why ours is
the
only Community College in Ontario that is an Authorized Macromedia Training
Centre. Of course moving our curricullum to train our students in Director
7,
Flash 4, Fireworks 3, Dreamweaver 2, Pshop 5.5, Illustrator 8, Freehand 8
and so
on within three months of each upgrade's introduction could be seen as a bit
slow but what the hey we are teachers. What motivation could we possibly
have?

And I gotta tell, you, those G3's and SGI's in our labs make serious
kick-ass
word processors and are one hell of a development platform for Power Point
presentations.

And that real world market forces observation is oh so true. Sully academia
with
that filthy lucre? Go forbid. That's why we only hire instructors that are
washed up hacks who think whizzy multimedia is two slide projectors synched
to a
Uher Reel- To- Reel tape recorder. And you wouldn't believe the debates we
have
in the faculty lounge when I use "Flash" as a noun.I always wondered why
Colin
Moock teaches at Sheridan College. Thanks for clearing that one up for me.

Now all I have to do is figure out why colleges and Universities in Asia,
Australia and the U.S. are spending time in our classes figuring out how
we do
it.

How do we do it? Simple. We show them your statement and tell them "Do the
exact opposite."
