In Flash 3, select the sound file from the Library, set the sampling rate to
22kHz and the ADPCM compression to 4 bits, then hit Test to hear the sound
quality and see the size of the exported sound file. If it sounds OK and is
small enough, you're set. If it's too big, drop it to 3 bits and Test it
again. If still too big, drop the sampling frequency to 11kHz and Test it
again. Keep playing with smaller values of sampling frequency and number of
bits to get an acceptable sound and size.
These values, since they are set for the individual file, will override the
default settings for the rest of your sound files in the main export dialog
box unless you click the Override Settings checkbox. This is great because
you can individually set the export parameters for each sound file much the
same way that you can set the export quality of bitmaps.

Subject: FLASH: Audio compression
Audio question: What is the best way to compress audio in flash 3 for a
small background loop. I would like to use a detection script to send users
to a Flash 3 version of a movie rather than force them to upgrade to Flash
4. The Flash 3 version will be much lighter on the audio, but I would like
to have a small loop. Any thoughts? TIA
