There is no need to use 0% alpha when defining hotspots as they aren't
visible anyway. I tend to have a square symbol (no lines) and I just re-use
it everywhere.

You need to put a rectangle behind your text, and then make the
rectangle transparent (set Alpha to 0%). This way, the hot spot will
include the area around the text, not just the letters themselves.
