This is what I do for making the basic layout of the movie and for any
objects which require better drawing tools than Flash has ... ie, text
along a path, or complex curves. Copying and pasting works fine for me:
quick and easy.
I do not ever use placed files, and do have to re-create gradients in Flash.
I remember I was frustrated while using Illustrator 7.0, but since I've
updated to 8.0, things have been working fine.
There is a Flash export plug-in for Illustrator, which I tinkered with for
about 10 minutes: http://www.flash.com/flashwriter/ - although it attempts
to export gradients, it got the alignment of the gradient wrong in my test.
And the resulting swf was significantly larger than one which I copied and
pasted.
