I made a demo reel type of thing and in it there was a lot of flash. I got
mixed results. Some of the stuff came out really weird looking.

But the best advice i can give is export to quicktime in high resolutions.

If you find a different and more effective method please share it with me.

If you use Adobe After effects and use the title safe and action safe guides
you should be fine wiht the clipping on the sides.

When you say film are you talking 35mm? or 16mm? perhaps Hi8?

Your best bet is to make a high res video and transform it to film. Minimum
resolution for film that will apear in like a movie theatre is 1024 by
whatever, depending on your aspect ratio.

but your minimum width should be 1024.

hope i was of some help
