More like "what". ;-)
If you're creating a PC application, it really helps to be on a PC
yourself. Otherwise it's like driving a car in France, while you're still
in your living room in Kansas... hard to quickly get appropriate feedback,
know what I mean...? ;-)
Director's standalone Projectors are tuned to the content at hand...
besides including the platform-neutral movie files, they can include a
range of platform-specific extensions for database access, new media or
display options, 3D abilities, etc. It's hard to make customized single
EXEs on some other platform.
If you're determined to be cash-cheap and time-rich, you can use what's
called a "stub" projector that just branches to your first movie. All your
platform-neutral movie files would be outside this stub, of course, and you
couldn't customize the set of Xtras, or hide your external libraries, but
that's one way to do it in a low-capital way. You'd find it mandatory to
actually test your work as you go along, though, particularly on a _range_
of typical delivery machines.
You could just as easily search the technotes for this info, though... I've
been typing it for years, nothing new here. If you'd prefer to hear it
*not* from me, then post the same rant on DIRECT-L, and you'll hear the
exact same thing, although probably with a bit more color and vigor.... ;-)
