the flash 4 bible is an all-in-wonder book. it covers many many topics
in the world of flash production. only one of those is actionscript. i
think the total amount of pages that directly deal with actionscript is
50, and most of those are consumed by an action-by-action account of
interactivity in flash (only about 15 pages on programming language
fundamentals). still, the information is useful to most.

alternately, flash 4 magic is a book dedicated completely to
actionscript. it presents a series of projects that are
actionscript-based. this book is generally liked by people but has been
criticized by a few for having too much cutting and pasting and not
enough instructional information.

you can view samples of the actionscript material in the flash 4 bible
at my site:

note also that flashkit.com has literally hundreds of actionscript
sample .flas, and some tutorials.

good luck finding a book.
