A much faster and easier way to do this would be to edit your movie clip's
attibutes and tell it to behave as a graphic, not a movie clip. Now you
have to tweak the parameters (Play Once, Loop, Single Frame). You should do
this for all movie clips, and movie clips within movie clips, and movie
clips within movie clips within movie clips and... well, you get the
picture. :-)

Movie clips only play when you export the movie in swf format( or test the
movie) they will not play when you press control>play., or if oyu export
them in anyother format including animated gif.
soluiton: select all of the frames of the movie clip, right click ( or
control click on mac) and click on copy frames.
you can paste this in your main time line or in an entirely new fla file.
then export as animating gif.
hope that was somewhat coherent, its friday.
