Read a David Carson book and come to grips that if you just doodle,
something will happen. Hell, the guy makes money off of blurry photos of
nothing in particular.
If I block, then I'm aware that I'm thinking too hard. Like Carson
emphasizes, and he's absolutely right no matter how much you want to
disagree with his work/theory, designers work through intuitive processes.
Don't think, just start throwing stuff around. You've been doing this kind
of work long enough...you know the rules well enough so feel free to break a
few.
Lately, I've been looking at illustrations and "layouts" done by children
since they have such a firm grasp (or maybe lack of) on things like
representation and just do what makes them feel good.
