FLASH: pre load question

I have 2 movies, one the preloader the second is the main content movie. I

would like the preloader to detect at what stage the main movie is

downloaded, with effect to a movie clip in the pre loader which shows how

far it has got. 

I have put a load movie action in the preloader to load the second movie,

then if frame loaded actions at different stages of second movie. 

the tell target command i have used in the main movie is 

level0/loader 

this will give instruction to a clip instance called loader in the preload

movie. 

In the final frame of main movie i have pplaced an action that says if frame

loaded go and play the final sequence of the preloader which then calls in

the main movie.

I think I have done basically what is neccessary. 

This is giving me problems and i must be doing something fundamentally

wrong. 

Thanks in advance for any help. 

There was one other idea i had, that was to place all my clips etc. from the

library into the preload movie in hidden. Is this a correct assumption? Will

they load and be ready for the main movie.
