Sorry, I don't know of a hidden cause for that symptom presentation. How do
you do on the one-or-all-movies test: do those browsers always act the same
with all SWFs, from all servers? If not, then can we do the
one-or-all-browsers test and see if others see endless windows in their
browsers?
(If an issue is frequently discussed then we online can usually tell you
the cause just by the symptom challenge. With unusual symptoms, though,
you're back to normal troubleshooting, and the first step is to find the
core of the actual difference.)

Yes, if you're loading text or XML data, then this needs to come from the
same server as the SWF. (The larger Shockwave Player can pull from odd
servers, but like Java it shows a little warning dialog first.)
