You can not, in that it will do what photoshop does when you put a black to
white gradient....revealing the bottom layer in proportion to how grey the
mask is. If the images are stagnate then just create it in photoshop (or
whatever) and import, but if the images aren't moving but you want a fade in
then you can create two versions of the top image (one with the mask and one
without) and have one fade out. If they are exactly aligned they will apear
to have a gradual change in just the "masked" out area. Otherwise, I can
only think of doing something pixel by pixel.
Could this ever be a function of Flash? (It seems like refreshing
complicated imagery is a grueling task for Flash as it is)
Any other suggestions?
