Hi Tony,

My advice is to combine the best of both worlds: I draw the more complex
things the traditional way, using the 'flipping' method. Drawing on the
computer has it's limitations - animating even more so.
Nevertheless I usually animate directly in Flash.
The input differs, you can either use a scanner or a video camera.
Streamline is generally used to translate the artwork.
I just bought an A5 Wacom tablet that has a plastic overlay, that is of
course the easiest way to get your drawings into a computer !
There is a book about this called : Animation on the web, by Sean
Wagstaff, Peachpit Press. You can find a lot of software and methods in
it. If you are still searching I recommend it. There is also a recent
publication of Computer Arts about this subject ( Cartoonists that work
with computers ). I know some animators out here work with Toonz, Soft
Image, Aura ( NewTek ) one does it with Painter, several scan their work
and use After Effects. Some even use Premiere - but that I would not
recommend. I use Animo, because it resembles the traditional environment
best for me.

Good luck!

Chris
