FLASH: novice question re: interactivity in flash

I am not a flash programmer but am writing/producing content in flash--so

I'm still learning.


Here's the problem. Would like to have a character in a page the user can do

things to. Let's say he drags him a Twinkie and the character gets fat. Is

this something that can be done in flash--or do we have to rely on java?

Don't want to use shockwave.


Any advice? Ideas?
