FLASH: mask question

hey everyone --  


i'm having bizarre mask problems. my mask layer works, but it isn't working

COMPLETELY...it's just barely showing things that should be hidden by the

mask layer as they approach the mask -- it's as if mask layer's overall

opacity has been reduced slightly...


Details:

i've got a simple static mask (one large word) with images moving behind it.

my stageColor is dark gray, the images moving behind the mask are white.

when the movie plays you can see the objects that should be hidden as they

approach the mask, albeit barely.


suggestions? anyone?
