Hi Mark,
You need to lose the numerous little alpha-tweened "stars." This is detail
you just don't need (make them solid if you use them at all) and alpha
tweens are the number one culprit in slowing down the processor. Try taking
them out completely (if they're on lne layer, just convert it to a guide
layer temporarily) and see if this doesn't fix things.
